My Dear Brothers/Sisters,

The feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, which we celebrate today, February 11, has always had a special place in my heart because my sister who was diagnosed to have a brain tumor was healed through the intercessions of our mother.

On January 24, 1997, our church was declared National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes by Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines. Therefore, this year is our 20th anniversary as a Shrine. Since then our Church has become a place of pilgrimage and healing. Many people have experienced miraculous cures. Many who visit our Church return home with renewed faith and a readiness to serve God. For those people who doubt the miracles attributed to the intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes, the best that can be said to them are the words introduced in the film The Song of Bernadette. “For those who believe In God, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not believe, no explanation is possible.”

We pray to Our Lady of Lourdes to intercede for us to God that He may grant us healing in all aspects of our lives and give us total well-being. We also pray for those who are in any way afflicted, that they may find meaning in their misery. May they face their condition with firm faith in God and courage to offer it for the redemption of all. May they experience the warmth of God’s love and compassion by our tenderness and solidarity with them.

Happy Feast day!

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. Amen.

Rev. Fr. William T. Bustamante, OFMCap.
Rector/Parish Priest
